Spotlight on Hibs Ladies' stopper Jenna Fife...
Posted by
onTo celebrate the launch of Precision GK's game-changing range of women's goalkeeper gloves, we met up with one of the rising stars of the ladies' game - Hibs shot stopper Jenna Fife.
At just 20 years old, Jenna has established herself as the first choice goalkeeper for the hugely successful Hibs ladies' side. She has kept 2 consecutive clean sheets in recent weeks and there has been talk in some corners of her being called into the Scotland squad before too long.
Jenna met up with Football Nation for a quick chat...
FN: When did you first start playing football and what inspired you to do it?
JF: I started playing football when I was only 8 years old, playing for my school team at the time. I immediately fell in love with the game.
FN: Were you always a goalkeeper?
JF: I actually played outfield until I was 14 believe it or not. I took a turn in goals one day and enjoyed it so much I decided to stay there.
FN: Who is your favourite goalkeeper/inspiration?
JF: When I was growing up I loved watching Craig Gordon, he was my favourite player. Some of the saves he pulled off were unbelievable. More recently, I'm inspired by keepers like Kasper Schmeichel and David De Gea in the Premier League. Of course, I love watching female goalkeepers play too. The USA keeper Hope Solo is brilliant.
FN: What are your personal ambitions for the season?
JF: I want to keep as many clean sheets as I can to help Hibs win trophies. I also want to contribute as much as possible to the Champion's League games we have ahead of us. It's going to be amazing testing myself at that elite level.
FN: What do you like the most about Precision's Ladies' glove range?
JF: The new ladies' range is excellent! The best thing about them is definitely how they fit. You can definitely tell they've been shaped and cut to fit female hands. They're much more comfortable than when I was wearing regular goalkeeper gloves, plus the grip on the Precision gloves is fantastic.
FN: Would you recommend the Precision Ladies' range to other female goalkeepers?
JF: I would definitely recommend and encourage all female goalkeepers to try out the new range. They're so comfortable!
We'll certainly be keeping our fingers crossed that Jenna gets that Scotland call up before too long. Her next game is at Albyn Park in Broxburn against Stirling University Ladies.
